The President of India, in his capacity as the Visitor of the Jamia Millia Islamia has appointed Prof. Najma Akhtar as the Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. The Government of India has made history by recommending Professor Najma Akhtar the Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia.

 A widely acclaimed educationist, Professor Akhtar is the first lady Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, as also the first lady Vice Chancellor of any central universities in Delhi. It is a progressive land mark in the history of educational leadership and a matter of pride for Jamia Millia Islamia. The whole JMI fraternity accorded a warm welcome to the decision, and assured of sincere cooperation. They showed cheerful expectations of positive progress in various disciplines and areas of learning and knowledge.

 An internationally renowned educational administrator, Professor Akhtar has four decades of academic scholarship in educational leadership. She is known for spearheading international educational administrators’ course for senior officials from 130 countries for more than 15 years at NIEPA. She has established and successfully developed first state level management institute (SIEMET) at Allahabad for developing educational administrators for the country. She has managed affairs of premier educational institute in various critical statutory positions such as Controller of examination and Director Academic Programs at Aligarh Muslim University. At IGNOU, she led many distance educators capacity building courses at national and international level.

 A gold medallist of Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, Professor Akhtar distinguished herself in the university as a student in her early career. She earned international accolades including Commonwealth scholarship and the prestigious National Science Talent scholarship. She studied in prestigious international institutes such as University of Warwick and Nottingham UK and IIEP Paris (UNESCO). She has been involved in collaborative research work with developing and developed countries. As a successful Team Leader she has encouraged and developed younger faculty as independent leaders. She has been actively consulted by UNESCO, UNICEF, DANIDA and other international organisations.

Jamia Millia Islamia , under the new Leadership ,will strive to achieve the status of one of the World Class Universities.

Dr Majid Jamil is a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi since 2009.  He has served as a head of the Department during 2014-2017. Dr Jamil has more than 26 years research and teaching experience. He joined Jamia as a Lecturer in 1992. He has also served as an Assistant Professor at BITS Pilani Dubai Campus during 2003-2006. 

 

Dr Jamil has published more than 130 research papers in international refereed journals and conferences. Dr Jamil has guided 12 Ph Ds and supervising 8 PhD students at present. He has published one book Grid Integration of Solar Photovoltaic Systems, CRC Press, (Taylor and Francis Group), 2017, Edited 2 books and has written several book chapters also. Dr Jamil has received grant of more than Rs 3.0 crores from AICTE and DST, Govt of India for research projects. He has also received the best paper award from University of California, Berkley, USA in 2009,

 

Prof. Jamil is a fellow of Institute of Engineers and IETE, Senior Member IEEE and life member of ISTE, ICTP. He has established four labs including one power station research lab. His areas of interest are power systems, energy, energy auditing and intelligent techniques.

 

He has served several administrative positions in the university. He has also served as President of Jamia Engineering Alumni Association for more than 10 years.

Prof. Ahrar Husain

Dr. Ahrar Husain is a Professor at the Faculty of Education and Honorary Director at the Centre for Distance and Open Learning, in Islamia (A Central University). Where he has also formerly served as the Head of Department and Dean at the Faculty of Education.

 

Dr. Husain earned his Ph.D. from the Aligarh Muslim University majoring in Physics, a study area in which he has published more than twenty research articles in Foreign International Journals; supplemented by an even greater number of papers ranging from science animation, interactive simulation, augmented technologies among others. At present, he leads the research and development of technology-enhanced learning and pedagogic methods. His areas of interest include Metacognition and learning strategies; adaptable, Adaptive and personalized systems, Science Education and the use of social media in online learning.

 

Prof. Ahrar Husain has been engaged as a consultant with a diverse set of organizations in the education sector providing guidance on the development and acquisition of technically skilled teaching workforces. Apart from being a renowned educationist, he is an acclaimed writer, having authored thirteen books on diversified topics of scientific inventions and research. His authoring endeavors have been rewarded by the Delhi and Uttar Pradesh government.

 

A renowned educationist, with over thirty years of teaching, counseling and research experience, he currently enjoys his engagements with mentoring graduate research of M.Phil and Ph.D. students. Dr. Husain is also the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the 'Jamia Journal of Education' (A bi-annual international publication) and serves on several National and International advisory boards for research journals and conference technical committees; all working towards pushing the boundaries of research and innovation.

Dr. Mohammad Irfan Qureshi is Senior Assistant Professor in Department of Biotechnology, JMI. He has 20 years of expertise in field of plant stress physiology and molecular biology. However, he is working in field of Proteomics since 2004 and plant genome editing since 2016. Further, he has teaching experience of 13 years in capacity of a permanent faculty member in an Indian central university Jamia Millia Islamia. Dr. Qureshi has taught/teaching Plant Physiology, Plant Biotechnology and Biochemistry to under-graduates and Advance Omics Technologies and Plant Biotechnology to Masters classes. He also teaches Doctoral students in their pre-Ph.D course work. He has experience of running two major and one minor research projects in field of stress physiology and proteomics with model plants Indian mustard (Brassica juncea) and Arabidopsis thaliana, respectively.

 

Understanding the mechanism of metal toxicities in plants and their subcellular organelle such as chloroplast is always a prime interest of Dr. Qureshi. With metal-hyperaccumulators, applicant is researching on plant tolerance mechanisms leading to identification of important proteins. The researcher has been awarded with MIUR, Italy’s Young Researcher Award in the year 2005-2006. He is one of the few experts of Blue Native PAGE (BNP) which is demonstrated with his publications on responses of mustard/Arabidopsis thylakoidal multiprotein complexes. He has guided 9 doctoral students those worked on plant stress physiology, molecular biology and plant biotechnology.

  •  Dr. Qureshi has gained knowledge on molecular regulation of multi-protein complexes and transport-systems situated on outer and inner envelops of plastids/chloroplast. He took a special training at Friedrich-Schiller University (during INSA-DFG Visiting Fellowship in 2018), Jena, Germany in identification and regulation of proteins of photosystems; including chloroplast outer envelope translocon (TOC) or chloroplast inner envelope translocon (TIC).

  • He has a special exposure as a teacher through his Visiting Fellowship ‘Erasmus Plus Teacher’ which he commenced in Poland where he taught masters and doctoral students.
